Wastage of electricity
Many interest groups are becoming concerned about the sustainability of electricity; people are wasting a lot of electricity each day without paying much attention to the long-term effects of such actions. On an average in the US, residential household consumes 10,982 kWh of electricity. We are lucky to live in a world where we have many things at our convenience. However, people tend to waste many resources. Electricity is important resources that often go to waste, from using light’s unnecessarily to fans, radios and other home appliances that are left on even when no one is using them.
According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, three-quarters of the money we spend on electricity every month is wasted energy, the fact that we spend $ 350 billion annually on electricity means that seven percent of the amount is lost in the process of the delivery path from the power stations up to our homes and business premises. Many people ignore switching off most appliances when they do not use them, which is a process that takes only a little effort by reaching out for the switch. For some people, this is a difficult task. We do have to pay for the electricity we did not use.
Power wastage is becoming a big problem; however, there are several areas that have been identified to be wasting electricity, first within learning institutions, students forget to turn off the lights and fans before leaving. Teachers often forget to turn off the lights or equipment after using them, some students turn on air conditioners even on a chilly day. In most business premises people waste electricity, you can we see lights in an unoccupied building. During the day, most offices still looks brighter with lights being turned on.
At home, we ignore turning off television until the next day. Some kitchen appliances are not turned off after use. We usually turn on computers, but do nothing, hence wasting electricity.  Saving electricity sounds to be a lot of effort for many people, but it requires making small lifestyle changes to save hundreds of dollars every year. When unused house appliances are powered off, this is the first step to saving electricity.
We need also avoid the extra gas emission. Even though the government has developed various initiatives by developing five-year plans emphasizing on using alternative sources of energy, everyone has the responsibility to limit their use of electricity. Saving electricity requires a concerted effort between the government and individuals using electricity to solve the problem. It is each and everyone’s duty to avoid wasting electricity. More than 50 percent of electricity wastage comes from household appliances; all we have to remember is to switch them off and to unplug any electrical devices when we are not using to save the annual spending on electricity.
Saving electricity is not about switching off the appliances it about using energy efficient appliance models. With several electrical appliances, we can choose the ones using less energy to save wastage. We do not need to understand the logistics behind electricity and how it is generated, but conserving it is a simple process that anyone can participate.  The next time we are plugging in the appliances, turning on that heater we need to do it in a more energy efficient way. Everyone agrees that electricity is essential for us to live comfortably but, we need to embrace simple ways to reduce its usage. We need to save money and improve our home sustainability without destroying the future generation. We need to try these simple steps and life will be much affordable.
