Diversity in America
America is known for its diverse culture, hence referred to as the melting pot of culture; this metaphor is used to express the multi ethnicity of America. The country is a large melting pot as people enter the country and assimilate American beliefs and their culture forming unique cultures that form a strong nation. America is a true mixture of several cultures represented by an array of cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds that presents a unique characteristic that defines its citizens.
The US is known for its large immigrant population, and its rich tradition, hence referred to as the melting pot. America is the only nation made up of people from every land, all races, and people who practice all faiths. American diversity is the source of its strength and success. America diversity goes way back when the country was first colonized by the British. The British legal tradition has since remained the bedrock of the American system up to date. However, by the time the British colonized America, the country had a diverse cultural population .The diversity dates back to the 19th century and the early 20th centuries.
American different culture began to form even before American was recognized as a country; its diversity was majorly influenced by the British, with many adopting their language, legal system, and other cultural aspects. The US was strongly influenced by other European settlers like Germany, Italy, Poland, and Ireland who came in as migrants. These large numbers of different groups came into existence due to the historical events. For centuries, immigrants viewed America as the land of opportunities with the largest group of African American, Irish, Mexican and Germans coming together to form a multicultural nation. By the time the country was founded, its population was not only comprised of white people, but the country culture was based on their common heritage. The white European immigrants assimilated into the mainstream American culture in the 19th to 20th centuries, but in the 21st-century people of other colors become the majority due to migration .
Today America has the most diverse population in the world; its diverseness is seen in its ethnic makeup and religious practices. The concept of the melting point means America is not comprised of one culture; it is made up of a variety of cultures. America is seen as a fruit salad whereby it retains its original quality of culture, even when mixed with other culture making it more flavorful. Diversity in America does not mean other ethnic groups abandoning their cultural and ethnic identity, it means retaining one’s culture but adopting certain cultures to enhance harmony.
American founders visioned a society where diversity would be embraced, and people would celebrate their differences. These differences, including religion, ethnic background and culture are like a mosaic. People share core values that glue them together, leading to a stronger nation. America has been and remains the most desirable place for many people, especially those who struggle to find peace and success. Unlike other countries, the US has welcomed more immigrants with more than 50 million immigrants living in the US, and almost 700,000 people still are migrating to America every year in search of the American dream.
There is no doubt that America has a diverse culture and it’s the melting pot because most of its citizens are from all parts of the world and they strive to maintain a link to the original ethnic identity and culture while blending into the American society to be compatible. America places great value on diversity, through diversity the country has remained united and strong.
