The term junk food suggests the harmful nature of these food items to the wellbeing of an individual. Based on the high caloric nature of junk food, dieticians consider junk food as trash to health. These foods have little nutritional value. Other components of junk food include sugar, cholesterol and salt component. Teenagers are the most affected population to junk food. They are leading to their lives to extreme danger. Some of the examples of junk food include burger, pizza, chips, cracks and French fries. Besides, junk foods have no nutritional value and health benefits. Teenagers should desist from the consumption of junk food whenever they are hungry.
Good nutritional status is the essential for productive life. Healthy and nutritious diet helps to maintain and support productive life. Children should be encouraged to support healthy dietary habits throughout the life. However, the trend of consuming junk food is increasing among the 21st generation. Despite the palatability nature of junk food, however, the future of this generation is sad and diseased. The custom is eating fast food is prevalent in the urban setup with the limited accessibility of various food sources. The food choice and preferences are therefore limited. Moreover, junk food is often affordable in many outlets. Ultimately, their consumption is high among the children and other productive population groups.
Typically, processed foods look so attractive and yummy for the people across all the age group. However, it is quite clear that these foods are so coarse from inside. They are spiced and colored from outside but different from inside. Nutritionally, these foods are never recommended to replace the usual diet. They should be consumed sparingly only for leisure alongside other healthy foods. Ideally, these foods are considered unfit to the health. There are various nutritional disorders associated with practicing unhealthy dietary habit. For instance, the digestive system disorders, cardiovascular disorders, constipation are associated with excessive consumption of junk food.
Junk foods affect the health in various ways among the people across any age group. Most commonly, it contributes to weight gain. Despite being high calorie, junk foods provide little satiety value. People tend to overeat them when they are hungry. Besides, fast food provides inappropriate energy to the body. Consumption of these foods contributes to a craving for more food. According to nutritionists, junk food majorly provides unhealthy fats to the body. Excessive consumption of unhealthy fats contributes to the inadequate supply of oxygen to the body tissues. Inadequate supply of oxygen to the brain tissues contributes to poor brain functioning. The high amount of cholesterol in junk foods clogs the blood vessels. The body uses extra energy to pump the blood through the constricted blood vessels. Ultimately, there is fatigue sensation among the affected individuals. The excessive amount of cholesterol in the blood contributes to weight gain and destroys the liver tissues.
Fast foods are deliberately processed with good tastes. They are appealing to the sight with additives to improve their palatability. Despite rich in fats and sugars, these foods do not fulfill healthy calorie requirement of the body tissues. According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, consumption of junk foods is associated with type-2 diabetes. In this condition, the body cells are unable to regulate blood sugar levels optimally. Individuals are prone to the risk of contracting these condition as they gain excess weight and become obese. The condition may initiate the development of kidney failure.
Junk foods have limited essential nutrients. Dietary fibers, minerals, vitamins, and irons are among the vital nutrient missing out on junk foods. Being rich in saturated fats, bad cholesterol and sodium, fast food increases the risks of contracting cardiovascular disorders. Individual obsessed with junk food in the diet suffer from cardiac arrest, myocardial infarction, and atherosclerosis. Moreover, high sodium and bad cholesterol loading increase the risk of blood pressure. It also overloads the capacity of the heart to function properly. Women obsessed with convenient foods may have low esteem since they grow fat with a poor image. They become unhealthier and less productive in the society. Processed foods rich in simple sugars from carbohydrates may spike the blood sugar level. High blood sugar levels make an individual more lethargic, sleepy and less active. Moreover, the reflexes and senses of the people consuming these foods are dull. Therefore, the consumption of fast foods contributes to a sedentary lifestyle. Lastly, it is essential to highlight that junk foods are less nutrient dense. The consumption of these foods on a regular basis contribute to constipation, stroke and other chronic condition. In conclusion, the teenagers should be encouraged to adopt healthy dietary habits. Junk foods are harmful to the health of the consumers. Despite the taste and the appearance of this foods, they have no nutritional value. Children should adopt a healthy lifestyle to improve their productivity in the society. Excessive weight gain from junk food is unhealthy and increases the risk of contracting other chronic disorders.
